SWIC ends trip as Fiala wins 700th.

Southwestern Illinois College won game 2 of a doubleheader against Shorter College GA. Monday, giving Head Coach Neil Fiala his 700th win as head coach at SWIC. In the game,  AJ Crutchfield threw 4 shut out innings for his first college win and Cody Calvert had 2 hits and 3 RBI's to lead the offense.

The Blue Storm finished the opening season weekend winning 2 of 5 games.  The other win came on Sunday against South Georgia College.  In the 8-7 win, Joe Winckel went 3-4 with an RBI and Cody Daily had the key blow, a bases loaded double to score all three runs.  Jake Sinovich picked up his first win of the year going 3 1/3 innings and Andrew Buehler picked up his first save of the year.  Buehler made it exciting giving up a triple to start the ninth but then got 2 ground ball outs to shortstop with the infield in and then a strikeout to record the save.

In his 19th season at SWIC, Fiala's SWIC record now stands at 700-360 and his overall head coaching record now stands at 1056-583.
