After taking a 7-5 decision from Southeastern Illinois College Friday on the WVC Field, the Wabash Valley College baseball Warriors blasted the Falcons in Harrisburg Saturday, 16-4 and 16-0.
The games were WVC's season-opener in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.
Blake Drake started for WVC and went 5.1 innings. He gave up four runs, three earned, on one hit and five walks with three strike outs. Drake, who got the win, hit one batter. Nathan Humphrey went 2.2 innings and gave up a run, earned, on five hits with two strike outs. Keith Butler picked up the save. He went 1.0 innings and struck out one.
WVC scored two in the second and added four in the third. Southeastern scored two in the fifth and sixth. WVC came back with a run in the sixth. The Falcons scored a run in the seventh.
Casey Dishman was three for four with a run scored, a double, a stolen base and a walk. Michael Mosby was one for three with three RBIs, two runs scored, a triple, two stolen bases and a walk. Doom Spadafora was two for four with a run scored and two stolen bases.
Ryan Rodgers started Saturday's first game and went 7.0 innings He gave up four runs, all earned, on eight hits and three walks with 10 strike outs. J.T. Stenftenagel went 2.0 innings and gave up one hit.
WVC scored a run in the first, then blew the game open with a seven-run second. Each team scored a run in the third, then WVC came back with three in the fourth. Both teams scored a run in the fifth. Southeastern added two in the seventh and WVC scored three in the ninth.
The Warriors pounded out 18 hits to go with three Southeastern errors.
Jovan Gonzalez was four for six with three RBIs, three runs scored, a double and a stolen base. Spadafora was three for five with an RBI, three runs scored, a double and a triple. Daniel Nichols was three for six with two RBIs, two runs scored, a double and a triple.
Julio Morales started the second game, which went only five innings. He gave up five hits and four walks with three strike outs.
The Warriors scored three in the second, two each in the third and fourth innings and nine in the fifth. WVC pounded out 15 hits to go with three SIC errors.
Nichols was three for four with three RBIs, two runs scored and a home run. Jeff Kerian was two for two with two runs scored and a walk. Gonzalez was two for five with five RBIs, two runs scored, a double and a grand slam home run. Jacob Rhodes was two for three with two RBIs and a stolen base.
WVC is now 12-6-1, and 3-0 in the GRAC.
