ULLIN - The Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors softball team took two more wins Monday, defeating Shawnee College 12-2 and 5-1, to improve to 13-0.
Kristen Broadway won the opener. She went 6.0 innings and gave up two runs, both unearned, on six hits and a walk with 12 strike outs. Broadway is now 8-0.
WVC scored two in the first as Emerald Graham doubled home Mary Tindle, who had singled with one down. Graham later scored on a wild pitch.
The Lady Warriors added two more in the third on back-to-back doubles by Tindle and Graham, a single by LeAnn Collins and Emily Priar's double.
Shawnee cut it to 4-2 in the last of the third on a one-out error, a single, a two-out walk and a two-run single. But WVC made it 5-2 in the fourth as Hannah Croucher singled, moved up on Katelyn Kruse's sacrifice bunt, went to third as Brooke McCartney grounded out, and scored later on Graham's double.
Croucher and Kruse both had RBI singles in a two-run fifth. Priar and Katherine Tennis added RBI singles in the five-run sixth. Croucher had a two-run double in the frame with the final run scoring on a wild pitch.
Graham was four for four with three RBIs and three runs scored. Tindle was three for three with three runs scored. Croucher was three for four with two RBIs and two runs scored. Priar was three for four with two RBIs and Kruse was two for four with an RBI.
Kayla Meny improved to 4-0 with the second-game win. She went 7.0 innings and gave up a run, unearned, on eight hits with three strike outs.
WVC took a 2-0 lead in the second as April Damm was safe on a one-out error, Amy Orender singled, Bree McFall reached base on a two-out error, with a run scoring, and McCartney singled.
Shawnee cut it to 2-1 in the third on a two-out single, an error and another single.
The score went to 4-1 in the fourth with two down. McCartney walked and stole second. Taylor Wilson was safe on an error. Graham and Collins then both added RBI singles.
McFall had an RBI ground out in the fifth.
Collins was two for three with an RBI, her 101st in her WVC career. McCartney was two for three with an RBI and Graham was two for four with an RBI.
