WVC defeats Logan 3-2, 4-3
The Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors squeaked past the John A. Logan College Lady Vols Thursday, 3-2 and 4-3, to improve to 17-0 overall and 4-0 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.
Logan fell to 13-7 and 0-4.
Kristen Broadway, now 10-0, got the first-game win. She went 7.0 innings and gave up two runs, both earned, on six hits and a walk with eight strike outs.
WVC took a 1-0 lead in the first as LeAnn Collins singled home Emerald Graham with two down. The lead went to 3-0 in the third. Taylor Wilson was safe on an error and moved up on Brooke McCartney's sacrifice bunt. Emily Priar singled, putting runners on the corners. Graham singled in a run, then Collins reached base on an error. Jackie Porter added a RBI sacrifice fly.
Logan cut it to 3-1 in the fourth on a single, a sacrifice, a ground out and a wild pitch. The Lady Vols added a solo homer in the sixth.
Graham was three for three with an RBI and a run scored. Collins was three for four with an RBI. Priar was one for three with a run scored and Porter was one for two with an RBI.
The Lady Warriors had to come from behind to win the second game.
Kayla Meny started and went 3.1 innings. She gave up three runs, all earned, on six hits and three walks with one strike out. Meny also hit one batter. Katrina Carter pitched 1.2 innings for the win; she is now 2-0. Carter gave up a hit and a walk. Broadway got the save, her second. She gave up a hit and a walk with one strike out.
Logan took a 1-0 lead in the third on a single, a sacrifice, an intentional walk, a fly out and a single. The Lady Vols made it 3-0 in the fourth on a single, a sacrifice, two more singles, a ground out, another intentional walk, and a single.
WVC cut it to 3-3 in its fourth. Priar and April Damm both walked, then Amy Orender put down a sacrifice bunt. Bree McFall added a two-run single.
The Lady Warriors took the lead in the fifth. Mary Tindle singled, then Graham homered.
Graham was one for three with two RBIs, and the home run. McFall was one for two with two RBIs. Tindle was one for one with a run scored.
